How Spike handles student information, in plain language.
The short version
Spike is used by high-school students, so the information it holds is personal by nature. We do not sell it, we do not rent it, and we do not hand student profiles to colleges as recruiting leads. Information a student gives Spike is used to make Spike more useful to that student.
What we collect
Account information. An email address, and a password handled by our authentication provider. We never see the password itself.
What you tell Spike. Your messages, the profile Spike builds from them, your college list, activities and honors, essay drafts you write or paste in, tasks, and deadlines.
Usage information. Basic technical records such as device and browser type and the times features are used, which we use to keep the service working.
The free tools on this site are different: the chances calculator, GPA calculator, SAI calculator, international GPA converter, and AI essay checker run entirely in your browser. What you type into them is not uploaded to us.
How we use it
To give you guidance that reflects your actual situation, to keep your plan and deadlines current, to operate and improve the service, and to contact you about your account.
Your conversations and profile are processed by our AI provider in order to generate Spike’s responses. We do not use your personal information to target advertising.
Who it is shared with
People you choose. If you share a parent or counselor view, the person holding that link can see what the view includes. You control whether to share it.
Service providers. Companies that host the database, process AI requests, send email, and handle payments, each acting on our instructions.
Legal requirements. If the law requires disclosure, or to protect someone from harm.
Colleges are not on this list. We do not sell or share student data for recruiting.
Students under 18
Spike is built for students in grades 9 through 12, and many of them are minors. We ask for only what the product needs, and a parent or guardian can contact us to review or request deletion of their student’s information.
Your choices
You can edit or delete what Spike has recorded about you from inside the product, revoke a share link at any time, and request that we delete your account and its data by writing to us.

Questions about any of this, or a request about your data, go to info@get-spike.com.
This page describes how Spike works today and is being finalized with counsel before launch. We will post the effective date here when it takes effect.
